During the pandemic our physical world shrank and we looked closer at the world around us. Did we see everything? The dandelions struggling to survive in pavement cracks? A subtle peek of purple from water mint flowering in an overgrown ditch? Or did we walk past, unseeing, because they're ordinary?
Alternative photography can inspire us to look again at our natural world by providing a different way of seeing. The images are created through a reaction between light sensitive surfaces, such as b/w photographic paper, and objects, creating art that embodies the essence of the original, without the intervention of a camera. The ordinary is transformed, reality is questioned, encouraging us to pause and look again.
